Comparison of different protocols of Morris water maze in cognitive impairment with heart failure

Experiments
- Perform tracheal intubation via the oral cavity of rats and connect them to a ventilator. Confirm successful ligation by pathological Q waves shown in ECG 24 hr after surgery.1
- In the Morris water maze, pretrain the rats for 1 day. The acquisition trial consists of releasing rats from different quadrants and measuring the time to find a hidden platform for three consecutive days.2
- In the probe trial, remove the platform and record the number of crossings over the previous platform location.3
- In the reversal test, move the platform to the opposite quadrant and conduct trials similar to the acquisition trial.4
- The HF model of rats was established by ligating the left anterior descending coronary artery. After 60 days, cognitive tests were performed using the Morris water maze.
- Pretrain the rats for 1 day. Each day, perform four pairs of trials with different platform locations selected randomly.1
- In Trial1, place rats on the platform for 5 seconds, then release them into the water to find the platform within 120 seconds. If unsuccessful, guide them to the platform and keep them there for 30 seconds (adaptation training performed once).2
- After a 15-second intertrial interval, begin Trial2 by placing the rats in the same starting location and recording the time taken to find the platform.3
